Asus Prime Z270-A
If you plan on having an Intel processor, I would have recommended the Asus Z170-A motherboard but the Z170-A doesn’t support Kaby Lake processors until the BIOS has been updated. Therefore, I recommend that you spend the extra $20 and get the Asus Z270-A. The Z270-A is a great board for gamers at a good price. It supports Kaby Lake processors like the Intel i5-7600K out of the box and you can overclock both the CPU and memory very easily. It also has modern features like USB 3.1 (1 type A port and 1 type C port) which doubles the transfer speed of USB 3.0. It also supports up to 64GB of RAM to a maximum of 3466MHz. For those who want more than one video card, the Z270-A supports both SLI and Crossfire. It also comes with 2 M.2 connectors.

Gigabyte GA-AX370-Gaming K3
If you plan on having an AMD processor, I would recommend the GIGABYTE GA-AX370-Gaming K3 motherboard. It’s a great board for gamers at a great price. It supports Ryzen processors like the Ryzen 5 1600X and allows you to overclock the CPU and memory very easily. It comes with USB 3.1 (2 Gen 2 type A ports) which doubles the transfer speed of USB 3.0. It also supports up to 64GB of RAM to a maximum of 3200MHz. For those who want more than one video card, the AX370 Gaming K3 supports AMD Quad-GPU CrossFire™ and 2-Way AMD CrossFire. It also comes with 1 M.2 connector, 6 temperature sensors, 5 hybrid fan headers and Norton Internet Security.
